Evan Nelson leads Salpointe Catholic into 4A quarterfinals with win over Seton Catholic


Evan Nelson waited and worked. The sophomore guard knew his time would come.
Since he became eligible 10 games ago, Tucson Salpointe Catholic's basketball team has had the look of a championship contender.
Nelson, who had to sit out the first half of the season due to transferring from Marana Mountain View, had 27 points to lead 11th-seeded Salpointe to a 71-62 victory over host and No. 6 Chandler Seton Catholic on Wednesday night.
Salpointe (13-15) is 9-1 with Nelson on the floor and moves into Saturday's 4A basketball quarterfinals. Nelson has been averaging nearly 30 points.
