FIU basketball coach Richard Pitino to take Minnesota job


UPDATE 7:10 p.m.: Minnesota has sent out a release confirming Pitino has been hired as the school's head basketball coach.
FIU basketball coach Richard Pitino will be named the head coach of Minnesota by the end of the week, multiple sources close to the situation have told the Sun Sentinel.
Pitino, 30, will succeed Tubby Smith, who was fired after the Gophers were ousted in the round-of-32 in this year's NCAA Tournament.
